Florida Medical City shares inside look at new fitness center

Orlando Business Journal – August 7, 2020

A new high-tech fitness facility that should garner the attention of sports and health aficionados is taking shape in Lake Nona — and sharing a peek inside.

The Lake Nona Performance Club, being co-developed by Lake Nona master planner Tavistock Development Co. LLC and Signet Real Estate, is a 130,000-square-foot facility under construction at the Lake Nona Town Center in the fast-growing southeast Orlando community. The center will raise the game on health and fitness, said a news release.

Additionally, it will create 100 full-time and part-time jobs by the end of its third year in operations.

The facility is a joint venture between Lake Nona and Integrated Wellness Partners, a health and wellness services provider and subsidiary of Akron, Ohio-based private investment firm Signet LLC.

Construction began in April; the local office of Birmingham, Alabama-based Brasfield & Gorrie LLC is the project general contractor. Tavistock declined to share the project cost.

The center will feature:

  • Professional staff, including fitness and performance experts, rehabilitation specialists and physicians
  • Rock-climbing gym with options for all skill levels featuring a 40-foot climbing and bouldering wall
  • A dedicated, 5,500-square-foot Mind Body Zone for yoga, barre, and Pilates studios
  • Aquatics facility featuring a leisure pool, lap pool and whirlpool
  • More than 150 strength and cardiovascular equipment, including Technogym cardio training equipment with personal entertainment systems
  • 15,000-square-foot sports and high-performance center
  • Indoor gymnasium with walk/jog track, and multiple basketball and volleyball courts
  • Supervised, dedicated children’s activity area with curriculum-based wellness programming

The new performance club will be a “destination-worthy fitness center,” the center’s Executive Director Jay Groves said in a prepared statement.

“This incredible regional asset will provide programming and services across the entire spectrum of health, fitness, and performance led by a team of experts in the relevant fitness and mind-body fields. This new center will offer unmatched resources, tools, and support to help our members exceed their individual goals and achieve peak performance.”

Lake Nona already is home to sports organizations such as the U.S. Tennis Association’s USTA National Campus and the Johnson & Johnson Human Performance Institute athletic training center. The community’s 650-acre Medical City hub also has gained national attention for its hospitals, incubators and academic institutions.
